TikTok Shop Tightens Beauty Shelf-Life Rules for Sellers

TikTok Shop is enforcing stricter Beauty and Personal Care expiration and shelf-life requirements, including a 365-day remaining shelf-life standard at delivery.

What happened

TikTok Shop is tightening enforcement around expiration dates and shelf life for Beauty and Personal Care products.

According to TikTok Shop’s seller notice and its Expiration Date Labeling and Shelf Life Requirements, Beauty and Personal Care products must not be sold or shipped after their expiration date or “best before” date.

TikTok Shop also says products more than 3 years old must not be sold, regardless of the expiration or best-before date shown on the product.

The policy creates two clear operational checkpoints for sellers:

  • Check expiration date and remaining shelf life before offering the product for sale.

  • Check expiration date and remaining shelf life again before shipping it to the customer.

For Beauty and Personal Care products, TikTok Shop says products should have at least 365 days of remaining shelf life upon delivery.

If a product has less than 365 days remaining, sellers must clearly disclose that information before purchase and in the product listing.

TikTok Shop’s Beauty and Personal Care Products Requirements also note that sellers may need to submit category documentation, depending on their role as a seller. This can include cosmetic product labels, Drug Facts labels for applicable OTC products, invoices for resellers, and FDA-related documentation for certain manufacturers, importers, or repackers.

Why it matters for sellers

This is a bigger issue than a listing cleanup.

Beauty and Personal Care sellers now need to treat shelf-life management as part of marketplace operations, not just warehouse inventory control.

A product that is technically sellable in one channel may create risk on TikTok Shop if it does not meet the platform’s remaining shelf-life expectations at delivery.

That matters for sellers managing multi-channel inventory across Amazon, TikTok Shop, Walmart, DTC, and wholesale. Short-dated inventory can move differently by channel, and TikTok Shop’s policy makes it harder to treat all available stock as equally marketplace-ready.

For beauty brands operating across major marketplaces, beBOLD’s guide to selling beauty products on Amazon offers useful context on how category expectations, catalog quality, and brand control affect performance.

The biggest risk areas include:

  • Slow-moving SKUs
  • Imported inventory
  • Seasonal beauty sets
  • Promotional bundles
  • Older lots without clear printed expiration dates
  • Products with OTC positioning, such as sunscreen, acne treatments, or medicated personal care items

Sellers should also review listing content.

If a product has less than 365 days of remaining shelf life, TikTok Shop expects that to be disclosed before purchase and in the product listing. That means compliance, catalog, operations, and customer experience teams need to be aligned.

For teams comparing channel requirements, beBOLD’s TikTok Shop vs Amazon guide can help frame how each marketplace creates different operational demands.

For brands still building their TikTok Shop operating checklist, beBOLD’s guide to TikTok Shop requirements is a useful next step for understanding how category rules, seller documentation, and listing expectations fit together.

beBOLD Digital’s take

This is a retail-readiness update for beauty brands.

TikTok Shop is signaling that Beauty and Personal Care sellers need tighter control over product age, lot tracking, listing disclosures, and shipping checks.

For established brands, the practical move is to audit every active BPC listing, confirm shelf-life rules by SKU, and create a stop-ship process for products that no longer meet the standard.

The brands that handle this best will not wait for account health issues or listing removals.

They will build shelf-life review into launch planning, promo planning, and replenishment.

If your brand is scaling on TikTok Shop and needs help reviewing marketplace readiness, compliance-sensitive listings, or channel strategy, beBOLD Digital’s TikTok management services can help you build a stronger operating plan. Contact our team for a consultation.
